New coach and GM for Langley Rivermen

Langley Rivermen have named Chris Shaw as their new Head Coach and General Manager.

The announcement was posted online Sunday, April 21.

Shaw replaces Tyler Kuntz, who took on the position of head coach and general manager after the team parted ways with Burt Henderson in January of this year.

With Kuntz at the helm, Langley made it to the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) playoffs, falling to to the Chilliwack Chiefs in the first round.

Kuntz is no longer listed on the team website in any capacity.

The new Rivermen coach and GM was born and raised in South Surrey.

Shaw began his hockey career in the BCHL, playing for the Trail Smokeaters, Victoria Salsa and Burnaby Bulldogs from 1998 to 2001.

He was named Bulldogs team captain and earned a NCAA Division I scholarship to Niagara University.

Shaw went on to play professionally in various leagues, including the CHL, UHL, SPHL, and ECHL with the Victoria Salmon Kings, totalling 244 regular season games.

He transitioned into coaching, starting as an assistant coach with the Alberni Valley Bulldogs of the BCHL, then becoming head coach and general manager of the Nelson Leafs of the KIJHL. He also spent time as an associate head coach of the Vernon Vipers, and the Rivermen and led the Vancouver North West Hawks program as head coach and general manager, winning several awards and championships.

Recently, he was the Head Coach at BWC Academy U17 Prep in the CSSHL finishing the regular season with a record of 25-3-3-0-1 and taking his team to the semifinals in consecutive years.

He currently lives in Pitt Meadows with his wife Serena and 3 kids, Paisley, Kinsley and Ryland.
