Love is in the air this month, and Aldergrove-based Langley Animal Protection Society (LAPS) received a special gift, just in time for Valentine’s Day.

On Feb. 11, the Halo Purely for Pets “Rescue Love” tour made a stop in Vancouver, delivering more than 90,000 bowls of food to five groups in the Vancouver area.

Langley Animal Protection Society received 30,000 of them.

The “Rescue Love” tour, hosted by Halo in partnership with Freekibble.com and GreaterGood.org, is taking place throughout February, making stops across North America, with plans to deliver over 400,000 bowls of Halo pet food to shelter pets in need.

PetSmart Canada hosted the event.

For LAPS, which gives lost, stray and unwanted animals a second chance at a happy life, a high quality food donation like this is a big help in finding more homes for the pets in their care. “

Many of the animals that come to us are in poor condition and often underweight,” said Jayne Nelson, manager of animal welfare at LAPS.

“Feeding a high quality diet helps the animals recover and look healthy, which ultimately helps them find their forever homes (as) most people don’t want to adopt an animal that looks sick or in poor condition."

The other area groups that received food were Vancouver Orphan Kitten Rescue Association (VOKRA); Surrey Animal Resource Centre; Senior Animals in Need Today Society (SAINTS) and Dhana Metta Animal Rescue Society.
