Up for a tasty challenge?
Langley Eats Local is challenging locals to spend just one week sourcing as much of their food as possible from local farmers and producers.
The challenge runs between the next two Wednesdays, July 26 to Aug. 2.
In addition to gratification and education, there are also some prizes up for grabs.
“You define your own goals, whether sourcing everything possible from Langley, or allowing yourself five non-local ingredients for the tricky things like flower or rice, or drawing a 300-km radius,” explained Ava Reeve, agricultural program coordinator with the Langley Environmental Partners Society, and organizers of this year’s challenge.
This could prove to be a week of feasting or fasting.
“You might be surprised what you can get from locally owned businesses, including high-quality olive oils, coffee, and even chocolate,” Reeve said.
The event is organized by LEPS and hosted by the Langley Community Farmers Market, which will host a free Langley Eats Local event during the Aug. 2 farmers market, from 12 to 4:30 p.m. at the KPU Langley campus.
People can sign up for the challenge through the Langley Eats Local Facebook page, where they can also receive tips and tricks, and enter to win tasty treats.
