Nine-year-old Aldergrove resident Kasey Bunville was already having a good time when she spotted the bear.

As the BC Children’s Hospital mascot “Sunny Bear” ambled towards the table where Kasey and older sister Kalyn, 11, were collecting donations, she jumped up and went for a hug.

It’s been about seven years since Kasey was diagnosed with leukemia.

Following the diagnosis in May of 2010, monthly treatments of chemo at Children’s Hospital and Surrey Memorial Hospital’s cancer unit put her cancer in remission.

Now, she’s cancer-free, and her family is determined to give back by raising money for Children’s.

They’ve already held several fundraising events, and the afternoon August 12 event at the Save-On-Foods store in Aldergrove at Fraser Highway and 264 street raised more than $700.
