Morgan Boldt and Kourtnie Sohl are the organizers for the second annual Run for Rest on June 7 to raise money for Matthew’s House.

The second annual Run for Rest takes place Sunday, June 7 at Mill Lake Park.

The event raises funds for Matthew’s House, a respite facility for children with complex health care needs.

The five-km run began last year as a Grade 10 class project at Yale Secondary and this year has expanded to include other schools and the wider community.

Organizers Kourtnie Sohl and Morgan Boldt are challenging other schools to participate and raise money.

The challenge for them this year is that all of the organization of the run is being done on their own time – this is no longer a class project.

Kourtnie loves photography, does scrapbooking and makes a variety of crafts that she enters into craft fairs.

She has won several awards for her artistry. She’s also a self-taught guitarist and is part of the Kiwanis Educating Youth (KEY) Club at school, serving as co-president. Event planning is something she’s considering in the future.

Morgan is a sports enthusiast who enjoys hiking, skiing and biking. She especially loves the stress relief she gets from long distance running.

She also loves playing guitar and photography and enjoys traveling. She knows that her future will include travel and doing something that makes a difference in the lives of others.

They said that choosing to support Matthew’s House was an easy decision.

“Loving parents at the end of their rope need a place where they can leave their children in capable and honest hands, a place where they know that their children will be happy and safe,” Morgan says.

Kourtnie agrees. “When I hear the stories of the difference that Matthew’s House makes to parents and children, it makes me feel really good inside, knowing we can support this unique place that makes such a huge impact on so many families.”

Run for Rest takes place from noon to 3 p.m. Cost for registration is $5, with further donations accepted. For more information and to register, visit mattshouse.ca/run.

Matthew’s House is located on the Dave Lede Campus of Care on Marshall Road, next to Abbotsford Regional Hospital.
