Seven members of the Fort Langley Canoe club joined the Sunshine Coast Paddle Journey, a brigade of voyageur canoes that paddled from Egmont on the Sunshine Coast to Ambleside in Vancouver.

The flotilla paddled 125 km or 78 miles. The final day was eight hours of paddling in the pouring rain.

At each stop along the way First Nations greeted the brigade with a ceremony and permission to come ashore.

Celebrating Indigenous people of Canada’s existence of over 15,000 years, the Brigades are occurring right across this country from the west coast to the east coast, in the hopes of making the canoe the symbol of Canada.

Fort Langley Canoe Club’s team were Captain Sylvia Langmann, Skipper Debbie Scott, Susie Tuttle, Anne Vanderlaan, Linda Dickey, Noni Kazakoff, Tom Pinfold, and Glenda Grassmuck.
