As people entered and exited the Otter Co-op at 248 Street and Fraser Highway , they were greeted by several young apple vendors who politely twisted their arm to make a donation to the 10th Langley Scouts.

It was their annual Apple Day fundraiser.

In an online guide, Scouts Canada stresses they are not selling apples.

The apples are, instead, a thank-you to donors for supporting Scouting.

“Be prepared to answer the question “How much are the apples?” with “They are a thank-you for supporting Scouting, there is no set price.” the guide advises.

The money raised during the Otter donation drive will pay for camps and outings for the Beavers and Scouts, said Wendy Foulkes, a scouting parent who wasn’t able to become one when she was younger.

“Back then it was only boys, Now we allow boys and girls which is really nice,” Foulkes said.

The 10th Scouts have space in their Beavers, Cub, Scouts and Venturers sections, she said.

You can look them up on Facebook as the “10th Langley Panthers - Scouts Canada” or visit the Scouts Canada website.
