Three Langley based arts groups have been awarded cultural grants from Metro Vancouver.

The Fort Gallery, Langley Community Chorus and Royal Canadian Theatre Company are among 31 organizations in the region to receive a share of the $110,000 handed out in regional project grants.

Through its annual program, Metro Vancouver helps organizations research and produce new cultural programs, reach new audiences, and cover staffing and administrative needs, up to a maximum of $10,000 per project grant.

Grant recipients represent the cultural mosaic of the region, showcasing creativity across a broad range of disciplines, providing access for all abilities, supporting new immigrants and funding scholarships for those who need financial assistance.

“Since 2011, close to 200 regional project grants have been awarded to over 80 organizations,” said Judy Villeneuve, chair of the Regional Cultural Committee. “Metro Vancouver’s Cultural Grants program supports organizations who have a long standing commitment to serving the region and fosters the efforts of new recipient organizations.”

In 2017, Metro Vancouver approved a 50 per cent increase phased in over five years to the annual funding of $100,000 for cultural grants awarded to regional cultural organizations allowing for an increase to the total number of grant awards. There were 24 successful applicants in 2016 – there are 31 successful applicants in 2017. In the history of the grants program this is the highest number of award recommendations.
