Langley has 18 new residential beds for seniors who need to live in care facilities.

Fraser Health announced the new beds which will be at Langley Lodge and the Fort Langley Care Centre (also known as Simpson Manor).

The addition brings the total number of publicly funded residential care beds to 681 in the community.

“Our population is rapidly growing and aging and we need to build capacity to care for seniors in our region,” said Fraser Health president and CEO Michael Marchbank. “While home is always best and we prioritize seniors living at home as long as they can, when living at home is no longer an option we are committed to providing safe, supportive and caring environments to the seniors that live in our communities.”

All of the beds will be in private rooms situated in clusters referred to as ‘neighbourhoods’ so residents can interact with other residents, family members and staff.

All of the rooms open out to common living and dining spaces to give them easy access to the facilities’ amenities.

“We need to ensure that seniors have the supports they need in a place they can call home. These new beds provide seniors in Langley with increased access to residential care and support our commitment to ensure residents can benefit from enough direct care hours,” said Health Minister Adrian Dix.

In the last two years, in addition to these new beds, Fraser Health has opened a total of 403 new residential care beds across the region with more than 8,000 people calling residential care their home.
