Two Langleys collect $1.6 million in traffic fines
Have you ever lamented that speeding tickets are just another tax grab? This year, traffic fines netted $1.6 million in revenue for the City and Township, the provincial government announced last week.
That money goes right back into police enforcement costs, like speed traps.
The City will receive $447,847 and the Township gets $1,178,670.
Since 2001, that’s $975 million in traffic fine revenue for B.C. municipalities.
The grants come from ticket fines and court-imposed fines on violation tickets, and the amount of money a municipality receives is based on its contribution to total municipal policing costs.
This money will provide additional funding for local policing services and crime prevention programs.
Langley MLAs Rich Coleman and Mary Polak said this amount of ticket fine revenue proves that Langley’s police officers are keeping families and the community safe.
