A sod turning ceremony at the site of the Aldergrove Recreation Centre was hosted by Township mayor and council on September 2, 2015.

Approved in a unanimous (9-0) vote by Township of Langley Council in June of 2015, the Aldergrove Recreation Centre will be constructed at 27032 Fraser Highway, at the site of the former Aldergrove Elementary School.

Along with the outdoor pool, it will feature a two-level, 550-seat arena, fitness centre, indoor walking track, and multipurpose rooms. The outdoor water park will include waterslides, tidal pool, current channel, a children’s’ aqua structure, playground, and picnic area.

An environmentally conscious project, the $26 million complex will heat the pool in the fall and winter with excess energy produced from cooling the ice.

On Feb. 29, 2015, Township of Langley Council unanimously voted to authorize an additional expenditure of $1,574,654 for the addition of a canopy over the pool area of the Aldergrove Recreation Centre.

Deconstruction of the former school, and site work, including geotechnical reports and other preparations, is complete.

Excavation work is currently underway at the site of the Aldergrove Credit Union Community Centre on Fraser Highway in Aldergrove. The recreation complex is funded by the Township of Langley and the Canadian government, and is scheduled to open to the public in the summer of 2018.

The facility is named after a major donor, Aldergrove Credit Union, which contributed significant funding to the community project.

Following 18 to 20 months of construction and a commissioning period, the facility is scheduled to open in 2018.
