After nearly three weeks of anticipation and fluctuations of warm weather, it’s looking as though Aldergrove will now have a place to cool off.

This weekend, the Aldergrove Credit Union Community Centre’s (ACUCC) aquatic area will be partially open to the public, according to Langley Township Councillor Bob Long.

The centre’s Otter Co-op’s Outdoor Experience water park will be up and running beginning Saturday (May 18) at 1 p.m. in allotted time sessions for visitors to enjoy, according to the Township website.

The opening weekend price for entry is $1 for children, seniors, students and $2 for adults – a result of new workers being trained on site as well and “the inconvenience” posed by the lengthy leisure pool closure, Long said.

This announcement comes after community upset ensued over a price hike in admission to the water park, which finalized at costing 25 per cent more for visitors.

The centre’s leisure pool – which workers refrained from reopening due to a surface-sticking issuing with plaster in its basin – will remain closed, Long clarified.

“Now that we’ve found this issue with the pool plaster, we’re checking everything else,” he added. This includes testing of the competition pool plaster which is made of a similar substance as the leisure pool, according to a Township source.

“Township staff have been working really hard to make this happen in time,” Long added.

The water park will be open for four hours from May 18 to 20, until 5 p.m.
