The blinding evening sun may have played a role in a crash that sent a motorcyclist to hospital with a serious injury to his foot Wednesday evening.

Police and emergency responders were on the scene of the collision at 256 Street and 64 Avenue, which took place around 6 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 13.

A red 2016 Suzuki motorcycle and a grey Honda Fit collided in the middle of the intersection.

According to Langley RCMP, the rider had the right of way when he was hit by the Honda. The rider was pinned by his own bike and was rushed to hospital with a major injury to his foot.

Police say the driver of the Honda may have been blinded by the sun.

The motorcycle was pulled to the shoulder where it was parked, while the car remained in the intersection, pointed west.

Police were directing traffic around the crash scene while officers investigated.

The intersection, which has stop signs posted at 64 Avenue and through-traffic permitted on 256 Street, has experienced a number of crashes in recent months.

A crash at 232 Street and 64 Avenue sent one driver to Royal Columbian with a concussion Thursday morning, said police.

A Silverado truck T-boned a Toyota Yaris at the intersection, sending the Yaris into a ditch. It appears the truck failed to yield to the southbound vehicle, which was travelling across the intersection along 64 Avenue.

“We’ve had too many avoidable collisions in the last few days,” said Langley RCMP Sgt. Alexandra Mulvihill of the traffic section.

“Drivers just aren’t paying attention, failing to yield and causing crashes that shouldn’t have happened.

“We are urging drivers to pay attention to the road and shake off those cobwebs of summer,” she said.

There also has been a large number of motorcycle crashes in the past couple days, said Mulvihill.

At 9 a.m. Thursday, there was a minor crash at Old Yale Road and Fraser Highway. The crash caused a traffic back-up, said police.

A motorcyclist decided to drive around it. In the process, he ran a red light and rear-ended another vehicle. The passenger on the bike was taken to hospital and suffered a broken arm.

The driver of the bike was ticketed for driving without due care and improper helmet, said police.
