The library for the new Canuck Place Children’s Hospice in Abbotsford will include at least one copy of Charlotte’s Web by E.B. White, a book that happens to be a favourite of eight-year-old Heather Praill.

Praill, from Coquitlam, was the second-youngest volunteer going through books at the Langley Chapters on Thursday morning to pick out publications for the library.

The bookstore on the Langley By-Pass opened early for the shopping expedition, funded with a $150,000 donation by Envision Financial.

The youngest volunteer at the event was six-year-old Ethan Chow from Abbotsford, who appeared to be a fan of the Lego Ninja book, while his older sister Emma, 10, was a fan of the Hunger Games series.

The Envision Financial grant will help fund the construction of a family support library and nursing team lounge.

Canuck Place Children’s Hospice provides pediatric palliative care to nearly 600 newborns, children and teens with life-threatening illnesses and support for their their families through outreach programs and two hospice locations in Vancouver and Abbotsford.

The services include clinical respite and family support, pain and symptom management, 24-hour phone consultation support and in-house clinical care, art and education, recreation therapy, grief and loss counselling and end-of-life care.
