A 23-year-old Coquitlam man has been charged after another man was punched in the head last fall in Vancouver's entertainment district and was left with brain damage.

The 34-year-old victim and his wife were heading home after a night out with some friends on Oct. 25, police said. They walked past two groups of men in front of the Roadhouse Bar on Smithe Street. As they passed, the man got involved in a fight the two groups were having over hiring a limousine.

The man was punched in the head and fell to the ground, police said. He hit his head on the concrete and suffered a brain injured.

A few weeks later, police arrested a man at his Coquitlam home. Some tips from the public later helped Crown counsel charge him with aggravated assault.

Police are not releasing his name because of a publication ban.
