One man was taken to hospital with what were described by police as “significant but not life-threatening injuries” after his car went off the road on 88th Avenue in Langley near 256th Street Saturday morning around 10 a.m.
Walnut Grove resident Brad Mason was driving on 88 with his wife Fiona around 9:30 a.m. when tghey witnessed an oncoming Bentley sedan suddenly swerve.
“I saw it veer off the side of the road and [then] it flew through the air,” Mason said.
Mason, a retired biochemist who has first aid training, said when he got to the car, the vehicle was on its side and the driver and sole occupant, an older man, was unconscious.
After a few minutes, the driver came to and tried to get out of the car, but his injuries were too serious, Mason said, including serious facial injuries as well as at least one leg fracture.
“He couldn’t talk.”
Fire crews extricated the driver, who was transported to hospital by air ambulance.
It appeared the single vehicle crash may have been the result of a medical condition, Langley RCMP Cpl. Holly Largy said.
Mason believed the driver may have suffered a heart attack.
