Occupants of a house have been evacuated following a mud slide which has closed 264 Street between 72 and 84 Avenues.
Terry Veer, the Township's manager of roads and drains said that debris appears to have covered both lanes of the road in north Aldergrove.
Mud plugged the road for about 100 metres in the 7700 block, Veer said.
It appears that the mud cascaded across the road, down the driveway of the house, and may have found its way into the garage, he added.
The slide occurred at about 5 a.m. on Wednesday.
A crew from the Operations Centre as well as the Township fire department were dispatched to at the site in the early morning, but single alternating traffic is expected to be restored by 5 p.m. today.
Meanwhile, the Township is taking no chances on a second slide. It occurred in the 7400 block of 252A Street.
"We thought that to be on the safe side we'll keep it closed for the night until we have cleared up the road," Veer said.
He described the mud from the larger slide on 264 Street as "very soupy and very unstable." It was approximately one foot deep in places.
The slide occurred during relentless rain that began on Tuesday and continued throughout the night. Environment Canada has issued a heavy rainfall warning for this evening, and predicts another 10 to 20 mm and up to 15 mm tomorrow (Thursday).
