Police are hunting for a vehicle and three suspects believed to be linked to a non-fatal shooting in the 2500 block of Janzen Street in west Abbotsford Tuesday night.

Police and paramedics responded around 10:30 p.m. to a home north of South Fraser Way. A 22-year-old man had left the garage of the residence a few minutes earlier and was ambushed by suspects who ran up to him in the driveway and began shooting.

The victim fled back into the home and suffered only minor injuries.

Abbotsford Police Const. Ian MacDonald said police believe around a half dozen shots were fired, with two different shooting suspects and a getaway driver believed to be involved. The suspects fled in an SUV that may have been a Nissan Pathfinder.

MacDonald said the incident appears to be targeted, but no link has been made yet to the Townline Hill conflict, in which two groups of men are fighting for drug territory, largely in the western part of the city. Several shootings – including five murders - have been tied to the dispute.

A similar shooting took place Jan. 9 on Flagman Place in west Abbotsford, just east of the Aldergrove border.

In that incident, a man was also in his driveway when a suspect in dark clothing ran towards him and began shooting.

The victim scrambled to get back into this home, but slipped on the ice. He later reported to police that he believed two rounds had gone over his head.

Nobody was injured in that incident, although two shots hit the victim's home and one hit a neighbour's residence.

The shooter fled in a dark four-door sedan in which he was a passenger.
