The Township of Langley will install a concrete barrier at the entrance of Williams Park after riders on ATVs once again damaged the area.
Area resident James Moran first noticed the vandalism on the weekend while out for a walk at the park, located at 68 Avenue and 238 Street.
“They were here Friday, June 23. They must have used ropes and tied them to the barriers to pull them out of the way so they could get in,” Moran told the Times.
“There is track marks through the grassed area and places where they did doughnuts.”
Township Parks staff inspected the park on Monday and said it looks as though someone removed two barrier posts beside the gate at the entrance on 64 Avenue to gain access.
They drove in and damaged turf.
Staff repaired the turf by filling in the tire ruts and planting grass seed. A long, concrete barrier has been placed beside the gate entrance to prevent future access and a more permanent barrier will be placed there in the future, said Township Parks.
In December, ATVs ripped through the park after a heavy snowfall, cutting deep ruts into the river bank, tearing up the grass, and leaving deep ruts other places.
