LAWRENCE, HENRY (HARRY) 1923-2008

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Harry (Henry) Lawrence in Aldergrove on March 5 2008 following a lengthy illness.

Harry was born in Southampton England in 1923. It was here during the 2nd World War that he first met his future wife, May. During the war, Harry applied his skills in building fighter planes and served in the army. In 1951 Harry married his long time sweetheart May. In 1957, Harry and May moved to Canada where Harry began his profession as a power engineer. After becoming a first class engineer in Manitoba, Harry and May moved to Golden in 1966 where they became actively involved in the community and the Royal Canadian Legion. In 1988, they moved to Aldergrove where they continued their involvement with the Legion. In 2003, Harry moved into Jackman Manor where he received great care and support over his final years. Harry was not only a sharp dresser, he was also a great artist with both his hands and his feet. As a trained, ballroom dancer, Harry spent countless hours teaching the art free to any one who wanted to learn. His skills as both an artist and a model builder were evident to any one who saw the dedication and desire he put into his work. Always one to give to the community Harry has been honored with lifetime memberships from the Lions and the Legion.

Harry is survived by his wife, May, sister Gwen (England), son Mark (Donna) of Cranbrook, grandchildren Derek (Cheryl) of Aldergrove, Traci (Rob), Craig of Cranbrook, and Adam of Walnut Grove). Harry was predeceased by his daughter Ruth, brother Les, and parents Henry and Minnie.
