AVID students from Aldergrove Secondary volunteered at the Aldergrove clean-up on Saturday and now are fundraising for the Mantta family.

Editor:

After reading your cover article in last week’s edition, we were very moved by the circumstances of little Carter Mantta and his family. Carter was born with a rare genetic disorder, CGD, and is under-going stem cell transplant surgery next month at Children’s Hospital.

Our family was in a similar situation 13 years ago, as Jocelyn was born with a kidney defect that required corrective surgery when she was the same age as Carter, 2½ years old.

Our family, along with several of Jocelyn’s grade 10 AVID classmates from Aldergrove Secondary School, are holding a bottle drive this Saturday, April 23 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with the aim of raising a month’s worth of gas money for the Mantta family.

Anyone with a pile of bottle empties can call 604-857-7578 to book a pick-up this weekend.

Thank you in advance,

Jocelyn Weber and her Mom, Ellen Barrington, Aldergrove
