Hockey outreach builds teamwork

Langley’s successful Youth at Risk Hockey Program is about to enter its third year.

Skaters will hit the ice on September 22 for the first time this season.

The program was developed to provide an opportunity for identified ‘high risk’ youth to experience a pro-social recreational activity with other members of their community.  This recreational hockey program was organized to help develop pro-social behaviour, conflict and anger management skills and offer these youths an opportunity to mingle with positive mentors and role models. The youth have an opportunity to be involved in a teambuilding experience and perhaps a sense of inclusion in a productive and positive environment.

The program began in January of 2010 and is now its third season. Games take place at Canlan Icesports (Twin Rinks). Each week, positive role models from Langley RCMP, Langley Auxiliary program, Probation, FAYSS, Outreach programs, Langley Youth and Family Services bring their equipment and spend some quality time with these identified youth.

Langley RCMP would like to thank their partners for their generosity in supporting another year of mentoring, including Blatzy Sports, Canlan Icesports, Pucks and the many volunteers that offer their time both on the ice and off.
