The Aldergrove Kodiaks are on a well-deserved Christmas break after a seven-game win streak that culminated with Wednesday's defeat of one of the top teams in the league.

The Kodiaks' 3-2 win over Delta Ice Hawks on Dec. 19 puts the Kodiaks solidly in second place in the Harold Brittain conference, with 35 points after 29 games.

The Kodiaks came out strong and disciplined in the first period at Aldergrove Arena, with a 2-0 lead to show for it. First period scorers were Tyson Solotki at 5:28, assisted by Kenny Prato and Kodi Schwarz, and 39 seconds later it was Stephen Ryan scoring, assisted by Ryan Simpson.

The Hawks notched the second period's only goal and evened it up at 8:57 in the third, but Kodiak Roshen Jaswal scored the winner at 11:08 on a power play, assisted by Joshua Cronin.

It was a nail-biter in the last few seconds as the Hawks had a man advantage and pulled their goalie but it wasn't enough to overcome the Kodiaks.

Jaswal earned the game's first star and third star went to keeper Mark Menicucci.

The Kodiaks outshot the Hawks 51-40.

The Kodiaks' next game is at home against the North Vancouver Wolf Pack, Wednesday, Jan. 2 at 7:15 p.m.
