The Abbotsford Canucks are turning back the clock for tonight’s (May 8) game three of the Pacific Division semifinal.

Abbotsford will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the 1994 run of the Vancouver Canucks, with appearances from players and other special in-arena events.

1994 alumni Kirk McLean, Dave Babych and Geoff Courtnall will do the ceremonial puck drop and will be signing autographs for fans during the game. The 1994 trio will be in section 101, with Canucks alumni Garry Monahan and Dennis Kearns also signing autographs in section 114.

The first 1,000 fans in the building will receive a free Abbotsford Canucks hat and the 1994 theme extends to the concession, as from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. there will be $5 Budweiser’s and $3 Grimm’s smokies for sale at section 117.

There is also a signed Trevor Linden jersey giveaway and a signed game-worn Arturs Silovs Abbotsford Canucks jersey auction at section 104.

Fans wanting to be aware of what’s happening with game one of the Vancouver Canucks and Edmonton Oilers series (which is happening at the same time as Abbotsford’s game) will be able to view the Vancouver game on TVs around the concourse, lounges and suites.

Abbotsford Canucks management stated they also hope to show highlights from the game on the Abbotsford Centre’s video board. Depending on the timing, they will put the Vancouver game on the big screen in intermissions after intermission activities are completed.

In other Abbotsford Canucks news, forward Jonathan Lekkerimaki was reassigned to Abbotsford after failing to crack the Swedish roster for the 2024 IIHF World Championship.

Abbotsford faces a 2-0 deficit to the Ontario Reign and a loss tonight ends the team’s season. However, if they stave off elimination then it’s possible that Lekkerimaki could suit up in Friday’s (May 10) game four.

Game five, if necessary, would occur on Sunday (May 12) at 4 p.m.
