Back-to-back shutouts — in which he was required to make a combined 15 saves, including on a late penalty kick — have earned Langley’s Sebastian Colyn top weekly honours among all Canadian male university athletes.

Colyn backstopped the Trinity Western Spartans to a pair of road wins over the weekend and on Wednesday was named the U Sports male athlete of the week.

The rookie goalkeeper — who graduated from Langley Christian in June and then won the starting job with the Spartans men’s soccer team — has played every minute of his team’s 10 Canada West games. The team is 5-2-3 and sits second in the Pacific Division.

He is tied for the conference lead with four shutouts, and is third in goals against average (0.76), save percentage (.851) and fifth in saves (40).
