A pair of Vancouver Giants picked up weekly honours for their efforts in helping the club to a four-game winning streak.

Ryan Kubic was named the Canadian Hockey League goaltender of the week for the week ending on Oct. 16.

Kubic went 4-0-0-0, including a shut-out victory to go along with a 1.73 goals against average and a .944 save percentage.

He stopped 30 shots in a 5-3 win over the Calgary Hitmen on Oct. 10 and then posted a 28-save shutout in a 2-0 win over the Edmonton Oil Kings the next night.

Kubic stopped another 25 shots in a 4-3 overtime triumph against the Lethbridge Hurricanes before capping off the week — and the road trip — with another 36 saves in a 2-1 overtime win over the Medicine Hat Tigers.

The 18-year-old Kubic improved to 5-6-0-0 with a 3.29 goals against and a .896 save percentage.

And while Kubic was earning honours for all the goaltenders across the three major junior leagues, captain Tyler Benson was named the Western Hockey League player of the week.

In the Giants’ four games, Benson had five goals and eight points, including a goal and three assists in the win over Edmonton.

The 18-year-old — an Edmonton Oilers draft pick — is second on the Giants with 10 points in eight games.
