One touchdown in the past six quarters is not a recipe for success.

But that is all the offence the Langley Rams have mustered over the past 90 minutes of football action. And not coincidentally, the Rams are winless in those two junior football contests to fall to 4-5 on the season.

The most recent loss was 24-10 defeat on Sunday afternoon at Kelowna’s Apple Bowl to the league-leading Okanagan Sun.

The loss cements Langley’s playoff position as they will finish fourth and face the winner of the Sun/Westshore Rebels clash this weekend in the BC Junior Football League regular season finale.

The Sun are 8-0-1 while the Rebels are 8-1, with their lone loss at the hands of Okanagan back in week one.

In week 8, Langley led Westshore 27-10 at halftime, but were outscored 23-1 in the second half.

And the offensive woes continued against the league’s stingiest defence.

The Rams had just four first downs and 109 net yards of offence in Sunday’s first half, yet trailed by just three points, 10-7, thanks to Khalik Johnson’s touchdown pass from Colby Peters.

Langley did have other opportunities to score, but on one occasion settled for a 10-yard field goal from Wayne Palmer, and on another, threw an interception in the end zone.

For the game, the Rams finished with 308 yards of net offence, but turned the ball over three times, as well as having a turnover on downs.

Johnson finished with 122 receiving yards on nine receptions while Nathan Lund was the leading rusher with 51 yards on 10 carries.

For the Sun, Robbie Rodrigues did the bulk of the damage for his team finishing with 183 yards rushing, as well as catching a 52-yard pass for 235 yards of total offence. Quarterback Nick Wenman took care of the rest, scoring three rushing touchdowns.

Defensively, Isaiah Stewart and Jace Harden led the way with six tackles apiece while Nathan Murray had four tackles and a fumble recovery.

The Rams finish the regular season in Nanaimo on Saturday against the VI Raiders (5-3-1).

More to come.
