Langley’s James Rahe scores five goals in 8-6 victory over New Westminster

The Langley Thunder are winless no more.

One night after coming so close to their first victory of the senior A Western Lacrosse Association season, the Thunder finally broke through, knocking off the New Westminster Salmonbellies by an 8-6 score.

The game was played on Thursday (June 22) at New Westminster’s Queens Park Arena and came one day after the ’Bellies scored goals 22 seconds apart in the third period to win 8-7 at the Langley Events Centre.

The split gives Langley a 1-7 record.

In Thursday’s victory, the Thunder found themselves trailing 6-5 after 40 minutes but the visitors scored the only three goals of the third.

James Rahe led the offence with five goals and six points while Johnny Pearson and Bryce Brochu each had three assists.

Adam Will and JP Kealy each had one goal and two assists and Justin Martin had the other goal.

The Thunder power play was the difference as they struck for five goals with the man advantage.

Davide Diruscio stopped 49 shots for the victory.

In the loss the night before, Kealy (two goals, three assists) and Pearson (two goals, one assist) led the offence. Brandon Clelland (one goal, three assists) and Rahe (three assists) also had multi-point games while Jordan Magnusson and Dylan Lacroix had the other goals.

The Thunder close out the first half of the regular season when they visit the Burnaby Lakers on June 27. The team’s next home game is the following night versus Coquitlam.
