After nine victories in their past 10 games, the Langley Blaze suffered back-to-back losses for the first time since late April.

The visiting Parksville Royals prevailed 4-2 and 3-2 on Sunday at McLeod Athletic Park. The losses come on the heels of 5-0 and 13-1 wins over the Mid Island Pirates on Saturday. That doubleheader was also at McLeod Park.

The end result is a 17-8 record for Langley in the BC Premier Baseball League.

Jacob Baker struck out six over 6.1 innings in the first game on Saturday before giving way to Justin Lanigan for the final two outs.

Danny Berg paced the offence with a pair of RBIs while Michael O’Toole had an RBI triple.

Matt Dalgleish allowed just three hits in game two, while striking out four and allowing one unearned run over five innings.

Ethan Gray delivered the big blow, belting a grand slam. That was one of two home runs on the day for Langley with Gus Wilson blasting a three-run shot. Danny Berg and Cole Cantelon contributed with a pair of RBIs apiece.

But the Blaze’s five-game win streak came to an end Sunday morning after they were held to three hits in a 4-2 loss to Parksville.

Langley only allowed five hits but Parksville scored one run in each of the fifth and sixth innings to break a 2-2 tie.

Kyle Prather took the loss, with three earned runs over 4.1 innings.

In game two, the Royals jumped ahead 3-0 after two innings and then held on for the 3-2 win.

The Blaze bats were again silent with just four hits.

Martin and Berg had the RBIs. Berg also pitched in the game, striking out 10.

The Blaze are scheduled to be back in action on June 1 when they host the Whalley Chiefs.
