A long-time Aldergrove resident, Hazel Suddaby, celebrated her 100th birthday this past week.
Hazel Suddaby was born Hazel Rigby in Killarney, Manitoba in 1918. She grew up on a farm with two brothers and two sisters.
Hazel and Reginald Suddaby were married in Killarney, Manitoba on October 14, 1942.
Hazel and Reginald originally moved to the west coast for his job with the Air Force.
They settled in Aldergrove in 1948. They bought a two acre piece of land on Fraser Highway near Station Road and built their home there, where they raised their four children.
Hazel lived in that home for nearly 50 years and now lives independently in a condominium in Aldergrove.
Hazel’s husband, Reginald, passed away in 1982.
Since moving to Aldergrove, Hazel has attended and actively volunteered at Aldergrove United Church.
Hazel and Reginald had four children: Brock, Pat, Linda and Gordon. Hazel now has seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. Her children and grandchildren reside all around the world, from B.C. to Montana to Australia.
Hazel celebrated her 100th birthday with family on Saturday, December 1. They celebrated with dinner at Bob’s Bar and Grill and then partied into the evening at Hazel’s place. The family had a champagne toast and shared stories of Hazel’s life and there was a slideshow with pictures from throughout Hazel’s life and a photo booth to capture memories of the occasion.
