The Alzheimer Society of B.C. holds a free workshop, starting March 4, for people who care for a family member with dementia.
The Family Caregiver Workshop runs for three Saturdays – March 4, 11 and 18 – from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Garden Park Tower, 2825 Clearbrook Rd.
Participants will learn strategies for taking care of someone with dementia, as well as taking care of their own health to ensure they are prepared to continue providing care for their family members.
"We offer practical techniques and strategies that caregivers can begin using immediately," says Cyndi McLeod, an Alzheimer Society support and education co-ordinator for Abbotsford.
Topics in the workshop include: understanding Alzheimer’s and other dementias, understanding behavior as a form of communication, and planning for the future.
