Big crowds expected for Langley fibre artists guild event

West Langley Hall will be packed with cozy creations and more

The Langley Weavers' and Spinners' Guild annual show has been going pretty much since the group started more than 50 years ago but members still like to keep it fresh.

There will be some new non-fibre items available this year in addition to the fibre pieces that have people coming back year after year.

"We get several hundred attendees every year. We have some dedicated customers who come to the sale every year and there is usually a line-up at the door on Saturday morning," noted guild member Maureen Dones. "And just for background, our guild has been active in Langley for 53 years and our sale has been going on for a majority of those years."

The juried sale is 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2 and Sunday, Nov. 3, in West Langley Hall, 9400 208 St., and will have woven, felted and knitted clothing, accessories, and home decor.

As for why people like the event, Dones joked "Let us count the ways."

To buy beautiful one-of-a-kind hand-crafted items made from sustainable natural fibres, she said is one reason.

"Many of the items are extremely creative and cannot be found in regular stores," she noted. "Their quality is excellent, and they will last for years.

People also enjoy the demonstrations weaving and spinning on site and the ability to ask questions of the crafters as they work.

There is also a range of artisanal products made by guest vendors. Items at this year sale will include jewellery, leatherwork, art works, bread, soaps, honey, jams and preserves.

"New to our sale this year is the inclusion of products made by our talented guild members that are not fibre-related. These include items such as redesigned and handmade clothing, eco printed clothing, altered journals, silver jewellery, and heat packs," Dones said.

Crafters will want to attend to pick up fibre and fibre-arts supplies so that they can create items on their own, she said.
