Langley Hospice is in the running for a $50,000 grant, but it needs people’s votes.
“Anyone and everyone can vote, so help us spread the word,” said hospice spokesperson Shannon Todd Booth, explaining that the hospice society is a contender in Envision Financial’s #SimpleGenerosity community grant competition, which could help the society win needed money to outfit the family kitchen and dining room for the new hospice residence being constructed northwest of the hospital.
The project was first made public in April 2016, to expand from the existing 10-bed Fraser Health facility on the hospital grounds to a new 15-bed facility. Funding commitments continuing to come forward.

Winning the $50,000 SimpleGenerosity grant would “bring a feeling of home to the new 15-bed Langley hospice residence with the new family kitchen and dining room. It’s a space for families to connect with trained volunteers, share a cup of tea, a story, or to find and receive support for themselves and their loved ones. They say that the kitchen is the heart of the home… a place and space where families come together; where special connections and memories are made,” said Todd Booth.
“Caring for people at the end of life means enabling them to live out their final days as they wish, surrounded by those they love, and helping them reflect on the life that they’ve lived, and supporting them and their loved ones as they face this final journey. The family kitchen and dining room will have all the needed appliances, pots, pans, baking trays, tables and seating, that truly make this the heart of any home,” she added. “Thank you for helping us…”

Envision Financial, a division of the Langley-based First West Credit Union, is aiming to enhance the communities for children and families by giving away a $50,000 grant towards a community-focused project, program, or initiative.
This grant is one of three that First West is distributing to support organizations in the regions it serves—$150,000 distributed in support of Canada 150.
The Langley Hospice Society, which has been providing compassionate support in this community for 30 years, submitted an application, hoping it would assist with the new hospice, which they’re breaking ground on this year.
