Metro Vancouver is developing a recycling app for the iPhone that will help residents figure out where to take recyclables.

The regional district already has a website database at metrovancouverrecyles.org where users can select a specific unwanted material and find out where they can take it for recycling or donation.

The app would provide the same information on the go with a mobile phone, except the GPS function of the iPhone will save the step of entering an address or city, plotting the nearest depots directly on a map.

The app is expected to be approved and ready for download by January.

Metro has other smart phone apps that help users get information and maps for regional parks as well as locations where they can refill water bottles with tap water.
