Aldergrove Legion #265 President Doug Hadley presented Aldergrove Rotary Club President Bev Dornan with a cash donation for six Starfish food backpacks for the next year, at Rotary’s April 1 meeting.
The Starfish pack fundraising campaign thermometer is tracking Rotary’s goal of 50 packs for the 2016/2017 school year.
Aldergrove Rotary has already raised funding for the Starfish program for the current school year, purchasing 50 food backpacks every weekend for 50 youths at Aldergrove schools: 20 each at Parkside and Shortreed elementary schools and 10 at Betty Gilbert middle school.
The Starfish backpacks provide youths with food for weekends when school breakfast and lunch programs are not available.
Each backpack costs about $600 per year to supply.
