The Thursday education event that included the documentary Mindset Matters has been postponed until the new year.

Students in Grade 4 to 8 will graduate into a world where the jobs they hold as adults may not even exist when they are in school.

That’s why the B.C. curriculum has added an emphasis on innovation, design, altruism and entrepreneurship so young people can adapt to the changes coming in the future.

“A recent study shows that 85 per cent of jobs that will exist in 2030 have not been invented yet,” noted Susan Cairns, the executive director of the Langley School District Foundation.

To spotlight how the changes are worked into local education, the foundation is holding a special evening that includes the screening of the documentary Mindset Matters: Empowering Youth Through Entrepreneurial Thinking.

The screening will no longer be held on Nov. 22 at Chief Sepass Theatre, 9096 Trattle St.

The evening starts with a student showcase at 6:15 p.m., followed by the screening and a panel discussion.

The documentary spotlights four Surrey students as they take part in the PowerPlay Young Entrepreneurs program, which is also used in Langley schools.

“To flourish in tomorrow’s economy, students need to learn entrepreneurial skills including problem-solving, creativity, critical thinking and social responsibility,” she said.

Tickets are free to the event but people must make arrangements in advance through Eventbrite.
