This weekend, the Family Four Centennial Celebration Art Show will honour the 100th anniversary of the Sloggett farm in Bradner.

The Sloggett family purchased the land in Bradner when the logging was finished, then referred to as a stump farm. For 100 years they have worked this land. In the early years it supplied their food; cows for milk products, beef, chickens, pigs and wild game for meat and always a huge garden for vegetables, fruit and flowers.

When Fred Sloggett began a trucking business hauling Langley and Abbotsford milk to the dairy his wife Marie continued with the farming on a smaller scale. She was a regular exhibitor at the Fall Fair and both were very involved in the community. After many years raising beef the land has come full circle, as it is now the Sloggett tree farm.

Sisters Maggie Simpson, Dinny Robertson, Shirley Lowes and Dianna Ponting (nee Sloggett) are all products of the Sloggett Farm along with other artistic sisters, brothers, mother, grandparents and even great aunts many of whom have come and gone since the family set down roots here in 1914.

The Art and Antiques Show runs on the farm, located at 28551 - 58 Ave., West Abbotsford in Dianna’s Vanishing Heritage Studio Gallery, on Saturday, Aug. 16 and Sunday, Aug. 17 from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. For more information call Dianna at 604-856-2063.
