Good Noise Vancouver Gospel Choir presents Soul Gospel II, the second concert uniting two influential and inspiring genres, on Saturday, June 3, at 3 and 7:30 p.m. at Christ Church Cathedral.

Juno-nominated vocalist Warren Dean Flandez lends his dark, rich tone and silky, smooth falsetto to the 90 voices of Good Noise, performing his own original works as well as hits made famous by such stars as Al Green, Stevie Wonder, Sam Cooke and more.

“Last season, we unveiled the first Soul Gospel event, and it was a tremendous success,” said Langley’s Gail Suderman, founder and artistic director of Good Noise.

“Both gospel and soul music draw the listener in with fervent call and response, improvisation and powerful vocals. This year, with a program steeped in the rich traditions of these beloved genres, coupled with the rafter-raising sound of Good Noise, and immense talent of Warren Dean Flandez, audiences will find it impossible to resist singing and dancing along.”

Suderman, who is also director of voice and choral studies at Kwantlen Polytechnic University, not only leads the members of her choir, she sings along. Her warm and robust voice rings out over the choir’s potent sound from her piano bench (she’s also the accompanist), while pounding the keys with huge passion.

She is a talented powerhouse who has led Good Noise for 12 years to perform with such stars as Barbara Streisand, David Foster, Josh Groban and Holly Cole.

The choir is renowned for its upbeat and inspiring annual concert season — garnering many sold out performances. In addition, they have recorded two CDs — both of which have been nominated for Covenant Awards (Canadian Gospel Music Awards).

Tickets for Soul Gospel II are $25 for adults, $2o for seniors and students, and $10 for children 12 and under. To purchase, call the box office at 1-800-838-3006 or visit brownpapertickets.com.
