Abbotsford’s Adam Hadwin is officially heading to the Presidents Cup.

The Ledgeview Golf and Country Club product clinched the 10th and final spot on the International team after he finished tied for 13th (-8) at the Dell Technologies Championship, which wrapped up in Massachusetts on Monday.

Hadwin earned the spot by finishing 10th overall amongst all International golfers in the Official World Golf Ranking for 2017. He earned a total of 129.69 points in 52 professional events this season, averaging 2.49 points per tournament.

He edged out Japan’s Hideto Tanihara to secure the final spot on the team.

“It’s huge,” Hadwin said after his round this weekend. “I’ve been speaking about it all week; that it’s been in the forefront of my mind.”

It’s the first time that Hadwin will compete at the Presidents Cup, and caps off a strong season for the local golfer.

He joined the exclusive ‘59 club’ at the CareerBuilder Challenge in California back in January, earned his first-ever PGA Tour win at the Valspar Championships in March, and made his debut at the Masters in April. He has logged five top-ten finishes in 2017, and also competed at the U.S. Open in June.

He has earned over $3.2 million in PGA events in 2017.

The Presidents Cup runs from Sept. 28 to Oct. 1 in New Jersey, and the format sees the first two days consist of five matches of fourball and five matches of foursomes. The third day consists of four matches of fourball and four matches of foursomes. The host team captain will decide the order, fourball vs. foursomes, on the first three days. On the fourth and final day, twelve singles matches will be played.

Hadwin is so far the lone Canadian on the team, which is captained by Zimbabwean Nick Price. The nine other announced team members include Hideko Matsuyama from Japan, Australian golfers Jason Day and Adam Scott and South African Louis Oosthuizen. The American team features Dustin Johnson, Jordan Speith, Justin Thomas and Rickie Fowler. Both teams will add two captain’s picks players in the coming weeks.
