As the mercury in thermometers remains south of zero, many in the Lower Mainland woke up to a fresh dusting of snow Sunday morning (Feb. 9).
With the weather forecast to be mainly clear, cold and sunny for the next week in Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley, temperatures are expected to remain between -8C to 2C through the week, according to Environment Canada.
For those heading to the mountains for Superbowl Sunday, however, an arctic outflow warning was issued Sunday morning for Sea to Sky, Squamish and Whistler.
A combination of low temperatures and strong outflow winds giving wind chill values near -20C overnight and into the morning hours, with temperatures forecast to rise by Tuesday afternoon, the federal agency noted.
"Frostbite and hypothermia can occur within minutes if adequate precautions are not taken when outdoors. Any outdoor activity exposes you to an increased risk of frostbite," Environment Canada cautioned in the warning.
"Weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions. If outside, dress warmly in layers and stay dry. Cover as much exposed skin as possible to avoid frostbite."
Temperature in the Lower Mainland are expected to warm up a little by Friday and Saturday, with a chance of flurries Friday night turning to flurries or rain showers on Saturday (Feb. 15).
