Surrey Mounties are investigating a man's death in Whalley after he was hit by a train early Friday morning, July 26.

Police were called to the railway tracks at 104 Avenue and 124A Street at 7:22 a.m. after being alerted by the Southern Railway of British Columbia company.

Sgt. Tammy Lobb said the pedestrian died at the scene despite efforts to save him by police, Surrey firefighters and British Columbia Emergency Health Services.

“It’s very early in the investigation which will be conducted concurrently with the BC Coroner’s Service,” Lobb said. “As with any sudden death investigation, police will be speaking with people who may have information regarding the victim and his recent movements to determine the events that led up to this incident."

Police ask anyone with information to contact the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 and quote file 2024-109462.

"We're not releasing his name or his age, but I can tell you he has been identified and again investigators are just working at this point to try and determine what were his movements prior to this incident, what was he doing on the tracks before the collision," Lobb said.
