While I applaud the widening of Hwy. 13 (264 St.) in any design, the recent newspaper article has left out some very important facts.
The proposed lane additions are the same as a proposal of 2012 with federal funding of $12 million, monies diverted by the provincial government to another project, leaving Aldergrove without any monies for expansion. The current overall plan is not as printed in The Aldergrove Star, the federal/provincial plans for the expansion from Zero Ave. to 8th Ave. is. Untimely five-lane, cross-section, southbound, three lanes general purpose, Nexus/bus, FAST trucks, northbound two lanes general purpose.
If this five-lane proposal is to become fact, utilizing today’s provincial road design the road will become over 70 feet wide, a quick look at the current road makes it apparent that expropriation of lands will be required; has or is this underway?
Furthermore, a bulletin by the BC Trucking originally issued on June 11, 2009, makes it clear that twinning Hwy. 13 to Hwy. 1 is inevitable, the sooner the better. Again, expropriation of property will be required, if there is any money left in the coffers!
