Langley's Gail Suderman is looking for people who want to help make some noise this holiday season.
This will be the second year she has helmed the Langley Christmas Choir.
"Last year I created the Langley Christmas Choir with 50 people joining to rehearse in the fall and then present a Christmas concert in December. The response was beyond what I had imaged in would be and we presented a sold-out concert," she said.
The long-time director of voice and choral music in the former music department at Kwantlen Polytechnic University is looking for choral singers for a community-based seasonal choir.
“The purpose of the choir is to build a sense of community through singing; provide singers with an opportunity to sing in a choir without a longer-term rehearsal commitment, and to present a concert during the Christmas season,” Suderman explained. “The music will range from traditional to contemporary Christmas music, drawing from classical to gospel traditions. The minimum age to participate is 18 years old (post high school), and my hope is a wide range of singers, from younger to the more seasoned, will join the choir. Although it’s called the ‘Langley Christmas Choir’, singers from beyond the Langley region are welcome to join as well.”
The choir is open to those who have previous choral experience and are comfortable singing in an SATB format as well as familiar reading choral music. It is a short-term choir and not meant to take singers away from their participation in other church or community choirs. There is space available in all sections: soprano, alto, tenor and bass.
There is no cost to participate and the choir will perform Sunday, Dec. 8 at 3 p.m.
Suderman is on staff of Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church as music director, and works to create music and singing opportunities not only for the church congregation, but for the larger Langley/Fraser Valley community. She continues to direct Good Noise in addition to her part-time at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church.
The choir would rehearse Wednesdays from Oct. 23 to Dec. 4 between 7:45 and 9:30 pm. Singers should be prepared to be available for all rehearsals. The rehearsals and concert are at the church, 20097 72 Ave.
