The Homebuilders Association Vancouver (HAVAN) is celebrating three decades of supporting kids in need with the 30th anniversary of its Coats for Kids campaign.

This annual fundraiser collects winter clothing and monetary donations for children, which are then given to the Lower Mainland and Surrey Christmas Bureaus.

The campaign relies on local businesses to serve as donation centres, where residents can bring by their new or gently used clothing for kids in need.

A number of Langley businesses have stepped up to participate in the fundraiser this new year, many of them acting as donation drop-off locations for the first time.

HAVAN acting CEO Wendy McNeil explained that it is only with this help from local businesses that the Coats for Kids campaign is able to make such a positive impact throughout the Lower Mainland.

"With a cold, wet winter forecasted and the first heavy rain from a recent atmospheric river behind us, it’s essential to ensure our kids are prepared for the season," said McNeil.

The Coats for Kids campaign runs from Nov. 5 to Dec. 5, with accepted donations including coats, scarves, gloves, blankets, new unwrapped toys, and money.

The following local businesses are drop-off locations for the Coats for Kids fundraiser:

• Country Lumber (22538 Fraser Hwy., Langley)

• HUB Warranty (206 - 20434 64 Ave., Langley)

• Innotech Windows and Doors (27452 52 Ave., Langley)

• MNP LLP (19933 88 Ave., Langley)
