With only two games left of the season and no wins, Aldergrove Kodiaks are feeling the pressure after their 6-2 loss on Sunday, Feb. 2, against the Chilliwack Jets.

First period only saw minor penalties for both teams, but second period was dominated by the Jets.

Within the third minute of middle period, Kodiaks and Jets each served six penalties ranging from minor infractions to misconduct.

Halfway through second though, Chilliwack's Nikita Kulikov scored during a power play of Aldergrove's seventh penalty that period.

He followed up 14 seconds later with his second goal of the night during the same power play.

Erich Rommel secured the Jets' lead 3-0 before middle period ended.

Third period began similar to the previous, as several infractions were handed out to two players from each team for misconduct and roughing, even "unsportsman-like conduct" for the Jets.

Chilliwack's Brody Quiring scored a fourth goal for the Jets a few minutes later.

Without assistance, Aldergrove's Joel Schmidt and Quinton Shields each scored for the Kodiaks only three minutes apart, bringing the game to 4-2 with Jets in the lead.

Two minutes after, Chilliwack's Peyten Legg-Cote scored for the Jets.

Wrapping up the game in the final two minutes, Jets' Matteo Marini landed the Jets sixth and final goal of the night during a power play.

Kodiaks netminder Nick Mayne was kept significantly busier than rival Luke Roberts as the Jets outshot them 69-18.

The three stars of the game were Chilliwack's Kulikov (first), Aldergrove's Mayne (second), and Marini of the Jets (third).

Kodiaks remain seventh in the seven-team Harold Brittain Conference of the Pacific Junior Hockey League (PJHL), while the Jets are second, just behind the Ridge Meadow Flames.

It has been one year since the Kodiaks won a match, which was Jan. 31, 2024, against the Surrey Knights.

Up next: Kodiaks host the Langley Trappers for their final crosstown match this season on Wednesday, Feb. 5, at the Aldergrove Community Centre. Puck drops at 7:15 p.m.
