Aldergrove Kodiaks outshot 71-20 in Sunday loss

On home ice Aldergrove Kodiaks faced a devastating loss on Sunday, Jan. 26, against the Port Coquitlam Trailblazers, who took the win 11-2. 

Significantly outshot by 71-20, the Kodiaks have a rough start to the second-to-last week of the season. 

Trailblazers' Markus Jack scored the team's first goal, followed later by Ryan Caughlan during a power play in the last two minutes of first period.

Only 37 seconds into second, Blake Van Straten scored a third goal for Trailblazers. Three minutes later, teammate Nick Ferraro-Howling scored a fourth. 

Kodiaks Aiden Knutsen scored his team's first goal without assistance. 

But Jack wrapped up the period with a fifth goal for the Trailblazers. 

Van Straten scored again at 1:54 into third for Port Coquitlam, Ferraro-Howling following with another goal too at 4:28. 

Jack returned with his third goal of the night for Trailblazers, bringing the score to eight, during a power play. 

Aldergrove's Jasha Bichin scored the second and final goal for the Kodiaks during a power play with assistance from Knutsen and Adam Clauzel. 

Third period wrapped up with back-to-back goals by Ashton Locke and Jack's fourth goal of the night, just 30 seconds apart, for the Trailblazers. 

Cam Trolland wrapped up the game with an 11th goal for Port Coquitlam with two minutes left. 

Kodiaks netminder Nick Mayne was kept significantly busier than rival Blake Micucci, as Trailblazers outshot them a whooping 71-20. 

The three stars of the game were Port Coquitlam's Jack (first), Van Straten (second), and Ferraro-Howling (third). 

Aldergrove served six penalties throughout the game ranging from minor tripping to misconduct, while Port Coquitlam served one. 

Kodiaks remain seventh in the seven-team Harold Brittain Conference of the Pacific Junior Hockey League (PJHL), while the Trailblazers are fifth in the Tom Show Conference. 

Up next: Kodiaks host the White Rock Whalers on Wednesday, Jan. 29, at the Aldergrove Community Centre. Puck drops at 7:15 p.m. 

Aldergrove has four games remaining of the season.
