ACSS Totems Varsity basketball boys opened their 2018/19 season home schedule with a heart breaking 90-85 loss to the Thomas Haney Thunder.

This back and forth game is an early contender for varsity game of the year.

The opening quarter was back and forth by both teams. Both teams were able to score at will on both sides of the court. Grade 12 forward Liam Bishop (17 pts, 8 reb) was able to dominate on offence.

Thunder was up 24-18 after the first quarter.

The second quarter saw the same fast-paced action that both teams showed in the opening 10 minutes. After a big three by Jessiah Lomas (5 pts, 3 reb) and Jacob Kautzman (11 pts, 10 reb) helping cleaning up the paint on the offensive side of the court the Totems kept pace with the Thunder.

Haney was up 46-37 at half.

The third quarter was no letdown after the exciting first half. Grade 10 guard/forward U’Shaun Campbell (25 pts, 12 reb, 5 ast, 3 stl, 2 blks) helped the Totems outscore the Thunder 21-19 going into the fourth quarter.

Haney led 65-58 after three quarters.

The fourth quarter was taken over on the offensive side of the court by grade 11 guard Nick Murray (20 pts, 3 stl, 3 ast). Murray was able to take it to the basket time and time again down the stretch. The Totems got the game to within five points with a Marc Montero (5 pts) three-pointer buzzer beater and the final horn.

Despite outscoring Haney 27-25 in the fourth, the final result was Aldergrove 85 (18-19-21-27, Thomas Haney 90 (24-22-19-25).
