Langley United U15 Div 1 girls have returned home from the Premier International 2023 Cup series as champions.
With coaches T.J Sugars and Penny Aalhus, the team managed three shutouts in four matches, giving up only one goal over the course of the three-day tournament held at four venues in Richmond and Surrey.
Billed as Canada’s largest tournament series, the Premier International drew teams from as far away as Calgary.
“I’m really proud of the girls and the buy-in to what we are doing,” coach Sugars said afterwards.
“It has accelerated the development progression within the group, for sure. As a coach, I think you need to gain the players trust and respect in order to be able to get the most out of them.”
He described the team coaching philosophy as one that is structured “but also allows creative expression.”
“We also focus a lot on positive mentality and visualization. We want the girls to play hard but with comfort and confidence.”
