New coach takes over reins for Langley Rams

Team's former player and defensive coordinator Cole Barron back to lead

A familiar face is taking the helm of the Langley Rams ahead of the 2025 season.

Former player, and more recently defensive coordinator for the local junior football team, Cole Barron has been hired as the new head coach, announced Rams president Dana Matheson.

Barron began his football career at the age of seven, playing in the Cloverdale minor football system.

From minor, Barron enrolled at Holy Cross regional high school, where he was a four-year varsity athlete who finished his high school career being named the provincial defensive player of the year.

After many collegiate offers, Barron decided to stay close to home and play for coach Blake Nill and the UBC Thunderbirds.

In 2019, he left UBC to play for the Langley Rams.

A perennial BCFC all-star, Barron was a leader and captain on a strong Rams squad, that didn't lose a conference football game in more than three years, playing in three consecutive national championship games, Matheson noted.

In 2021, Barron ended his junior football career helping a dominant defensive squad win the first Rams Canadian Bowl title in the history of the 75-year Rams franchise, against the London Beefeaters.

Upon graduation from the Langley Rams, Barron enrolled at the University of Manitoba, where he played linebacker for Coach Dobe's Bisons.

After leaving the game as a player, Barron worked with Holy Cross as a defensive coach, later coming back to the Rams and taking the reins as defensive coordinator in 2024.

"Cole is an extremely organized and detailed coach with a hunger for winning," Matheson said.

"He is someone who prepares diligently and wants the team to be successful at all times," added the team president.

"We're extremely excited to watch Cole lead this squad," Matheson concluded.
