2016 Fraser Valley Cultural Diversity Awards presented

Seven groups, businesses and individuals were honoured Friday night in Abbotsford

The 13th annual Fraser Valley Cultural Diversity Awards were held tonight (Friday) at the Ramada Plaza and Conference Centre in Abbotsford.

The event featured Fred Lee – of CBC Radio One’s The Early Edition – as master of ceremonies.

Entertainment was provided by the musical duo Quieros (Vince Dimanno and Barraa Ali), Tha Realm Dance Studio, and singer Jaia Hernandez.

The event was presented by Abbotsford Community Services in partnership with Mission and Chilliwack Community Services and the Langley-based New Directions English Langley School.

The Fraser Valley Cultural Diversity Awards started in 2003 to recognize organizations and individuals that embrace diversity in the community.

Each year, the awards receive nominations for businesses, programs, initiatives, schools and leaders that work towards building an inclusive community.

Nominees are accepted from Abbotsford, Mission, Langley and Chilliwack.

• Inclusive Environment (large organizations) – Convergys, Chilliwack

• Marketing – CIVL 101.7 FM, Fraser Valley

• Innovative Initiative (small and medium organizations) – The Ray and Millie Silver Aboriginal Library, Abbotsford

• Innovative Initiative (large organizations) – Career Choices and Life Success Program, Kwantlen Polytechnic University, Langley

• Effective Human Resources Strategies – Crop Production Services, Evergro division, Fraser Valley

• Champion of Diversity – Sherry Edmunds-Flett, Mission
